How Doing Nothing Can Also Be Productive!
Yesterday I had a return of the dreaded ‘information overload syndrome’.
The brain storming session with Alex Jeffreys on Thursday evening was outstanding as always. So many great tips and advice, not just form Alex but also from the other students of his coaching program. With the wealth of knowledge we all share and Alex’s guidance and insight, we can not fail.
It was interesting to hear how students feel they are progressing. You could hear frustration from some and the feeling that they were struggling to keep up. Well, no matter what our individual experience or techincal ability is, that’s something we all feel from time to time.
We feel there is so much to learn, so much to do and it seems never enough time to do it in.
And that’s when the problems can start. I have to admit, I have slipped back into the bad old ways slightly this week. The planning and organization that Alex had been trying to implement in us all got lost in my haste to accomplish too many tasks, too fast.
And that only leads to fatigue, frustration and information overload. So that’s where I was Friday morning.
So apart from answering a few comments and emails, I decided to take a step back, walk away for a while and turn the bloody computer off.
I don’t know about you, but I had forgotten there was an outside world and other people. I have been putting so much time and effort into this.
But as Alex keeps telling us, that time spent is only of use if it’s productive.
So can doing nothing be productive?
Well, yes it can. I did nothing to build my online business yesterday and I feel much better for it. It’s given me and my brain time to chill out, and now I’m ready for action again.
So, it’s forward to basics again for me and back to following the plan.
As we all know, success in life and business is not about how we deal with the good times but how we deal with the bad ones. Success can only come from failure and that is what failing forward is all about.
So to all those that are feeling frustrated, don’t be too hard on yourself, take some time out and the rest will follow. As Alex said on Thursday night, what is important is that we learn from our mistakes and those of others.
And don’t forget - Today’s dreams are tomorrows realities.
See you all on the webinar on Tuesday, social media money… can’t wait!

Hi, my name is Paul Hamilton and I am also a student of Alex. I just thought I would say Hi. I have been so busy trying to catch up with everything that Alex is teaching us that I haven’t had much time for anything else. Isn’t Alex fantastic? I just cannot believe how much I am learning. Like your blog. Would you please add my site to your blogroll. Thanks Paul

Hi Mark,
You are so right. This past Sunday, I threw my to do list out the window and spent the day with the family at the park. Something I like to do when I am working is to go in 2 hour spurts and then take an hour to do something totally unrelated.
It’s like a super mini vacation and I find that when I come back I am refreshed and focused.
I am having a video creation marathon this weekend to make tutorials for our fellow students and am taking requests. Go by my Hub page and vote on which topic you would like me to cover. If you don’t see the topic you want, go to my blog and make a suggestion and I will add it to the poll.

Adding a ’squeeze page’ to your sidebar can be a tricky business as every theme acts different. You won’t be able to fit too much in because of the width constraints. You probably saw I added one to the main page of my blog.
I’ve just changed this as I felt it took too much of the page up. Have a look at what I have done now and let me know what you think.
I would suggest you add the text you want into the aweber form itself and then add an image above it. I had a lot of people try to add the squeeze page into the sidebar and it caused all sorts of problems.
If you look in the ‘my product’ folder Alex gave us there is an images folder. Choose one in there and upload it to the images folder for your domain.
Then in the text box where you have put the aweber code, above it write:
That will place the image above the text and optin box.
To add the pages to your title bar, log into your wp admin area, click ‘write’ and then ‘page’
This will create a new page in the blog and should show up on the title bar.
Hope that all makes sense, let me know how you get on!
Cheers

Hello Mark!
Awesome blog. You are definitely correct that sometimes your brain needs to chill out. Doing nothing gives your subconscious time to fill in the gaps, so to speak.
The world really works in mysterious ways.
I’m trying to figure out how to aggregate everybody’s blog and then have the ability to automatically leave a comment from a dashboard.
By the way…How did you get to update on what each commentor blogs on their site? I’ve been wondering.
Also, I’ve blogged a how-to on placing an favicon (or favorites icon) on your browser tab and address bar. If anybody’s interested, it’s on the blog.
Have a wonderful day!!

Mark,
Great reading this.
I need to take your advice here, my friend!
I have been very frustrated and want everything to happen overnight.
Sitting back and doing nothing for a short time has brought it all into prospective.
YOU are a true leader to all of the Alex students and I want to sincerely THANK YOU for all the help and advice you have given us!

Nice site. May I get on your Alex blogroll list?
Also, question. Do you know how I can get something at the end of each post I write to say something about Comments so people can click it to make a comment? Like yours says post by Mark and Comments. My theme must not have it built in
Thanks
