Traffic Tactics Archives

Another great webinar with Alex Jeffreys last night. I really need to move to another time zone as I never make it to end of the interactive session! I checked out around 3am UK time but I think a new record was set this week at 6 hours. I need to take another tip from Alex and stock up on the Red Bull :)

So we are on to traffic generation and I know we have all been looking forward to that. It is the most crucial element of our business at this stage and something we all want more of.

I set up this domain on the 27th November and installed Google Analytics on the 1st Dec, here are the stats so far:

I’m obviously really pleased with those figures. If you had told me three weeks ago I could set up a blog and receive that level of traffic, I would have been calling for the men in white coats to take you away, lol. So it’s great to know that what we are doing works.

So where has my traffic come from and what am I going to do to generate more?

The bulk of my traffic has come from being active on blogs and as Alex said last night, this is a key strategy. I have had days when my whole focus has been to get out there and be active on other students blogs. When you see your Google analytics the next day it’s amazing to see the effect this has. The reverse is true also. The days I have not been blogging, the traffic takes a nose dive! So I will continue blogging as much as possible but I now intend to also cast my net further and be active on blogs outside our community.

I set up a Squidoo lens on the 4th December and apart from a few tweaks over the following days have not touched it. The day I published the lens it’s Squidoo rank was #78476 and #5639 in it’s category. I have just looked this morning and it’s rank in Squidoo is #6105 and #247 in it’s category!! That shows the amount of traffic coming through Squidoo and the power those lenses have.  That lens is in the top 10 of traffic sources to my blog.

What if I had 2 lenses or 10? More lenses will definately be in my traffic plan and I recommend you put at least one up. You can view my lens at the link below to get a few ideas:

Another source of traffic I have created has been through Youtube. The video Alex showed on the webinar last night was mine. It’s only 50 seconds long but has had 264 views and driven traffic to my ppp. I have just uploaded the same video to Viddler and I will let you know what results I get there. The other great thing about Youtube videos is that they appear in Google very quickly. Mine showed in the Google video results within a few hours.

I opened a Twitter account but did not really ‘get it’ until Alex explained it last night. However, I have had traffic from it, both to my blog and squeeze page. That is due to the use of the ‘tweetmyblog’ plugin. If you look at the bottom of my right sidebar you will see ‘my twitter feed’ and that is the plugin. Every time I post on this blog it sends a message to my twitter account and when I post on twitter, it sends one here.

But this feature spreads outside twitter and your blog. When you publish a squidoo lens, you have the option of ‘tweeting’ it. So squidoo automatically puts a tweet on your account informing your followers you have a new squidoo lens. The tweetmyblog plugin kicks in and sends a post to my blog also. That has now placed the link to my squidoo lens in two places and it has been very effective in increasing my squidoo rank. You can get the plugin here:

Well that is what has been working for me, what about you?

The more tips we can all share the more traffic we can all create. If anyone needs help with a squidoo lens just let me know.

Off to finalise my plan of attack now!

All the best
Mark

I have had a couple of questions about adding a confirmation page/link to your profit pulling platform. It is quite important that you have something in place. This will ensure subscribers have to confirm their email address BEFORE getting their hands on the ebook.  The first couple of people who entered their details on my squeeze page downloaded the ebook but didn’t verify their subscription, so their email address is not on my list.

To stop this from happening I created a confirmation page and uploaded it to the domain. Now when people enter their email address they are directed to this page:

Sorry, I know the picture is not very clear. The page thanks them for entering their details and tells them the steps they will need to take to download the ebook, i.e. confirm their email address.

When they receive the email from aweber asking them to confirm the email address, the link they click takes them to the download page.

It isn’t necessary to upload a confirmation page, you can achieve the same result using just using aweber.

Here is the simplest way to do it:

1. Log into aweber and open the web form you created for the squeeze page.

2. In the ‘thank you page’ box, instead of entering the URL for the download page, re-insert the default URL which is :

http://www.aweber.com/form/thankyou_vo.html

3. Now, go to the list settings tab and click on verified opt in. If you scroll to the bottom of the page you will see the ‘confirmation success page’ box. Enter the URL for your ebook download page here. You can also edit the confirmation email above this box.

That is all you need to do, now subscribers won’t reach the download page until they have confirmed their email address and on your list :)

Personally, I think it looks more professional if subscribers are taken to a custom confirmation page, rather than the standard aweber page.

I had asked Alex about this on the module 2 q&a and I know it’s something he wants to add to the profit pulling platform.

I am going to email him and attach my confirmation page to ask if he is happy with it. If he his, I will then make it available to everyone who wants to upload it.

It would be good to get an idea of how many people would be interested in having the confirmation page. If you would like to add it to your website, please leave a comment below and I will get back to you.

It’s great to finally see that somebody has thought of the little guys when creating a product. There are not many products that get me to part with my cash these days, but when John Thornhill told me about this I had to check it out. I am lucky enough to receive coaching from John and I can tell you he doesn’t recommend products lightly and only when he feels they are of real value.

His friend, Dave Nicholson has just released an excellent new product called ‘Total Web Traffic’ and it really does offer exactly what is needed for people like us.

There is so much content in Total Web Traffic. High quality videos showing you where to get started with various traffic generation methods, as well as an amazing 21 modules on any traffic method you can think off. The best bit is that it is so simple to follow. I have been going through the videos and modules for a couple of days and have learnt so much.

As well as the videos and modules, there are interviews with some massive marketers who explain their own methods that they use to gain immense amounts of targeted traffic to their sites.

I would really recommend you take a look at this as the one thing we all need is more traffic.

When Dave launched on Saturday he was offering a 30% discount and I think it’s still available.
